Hey, witches! Have I got a treat for you! As you may know, Scarlet Hood announced earlier this year that she would be planning a haunted attraction for the Halloween season. As August approaches, she has secured a venue and revealed details about this interactive trail, which she has named “Scarlet Hood’s Haunted Woods.” The haunted attraction will take place in Nahant, Massachusetts, less than 10 miles from Salem. The theme for the attraction will be a combination of Scarlet’s own childhood tragedy, and the Beast of Gévaudan.
For those unfamiliar with Scarlet’s sordid past, her grandmother was devoured by a wolf. Scarlet, only 8 years old at the time, had been the one to discover the treacherous wolf sleeping in her grandmother’s bed, wearing her grandmother’s robe. Had it not been for Scarlet’s quick thinking, and the wood-cutting axe in the corner of the room, the wolf would have eaten her as well.
The Beast of Gévaudan was a wolf-like creature that started mutilating townspeople in the small French Province of Gévaudan in 1764. The victims of the beast were often stripped of their clothes, and killed by having their throats torn out. The Beast killed nearly 300 people over a three-year-period before a local huntsman ended its reign of terror with a silver bullet.
As you may have guessed from the two preceding tales, the theme for Scarlet Hood’s Haunted Woods is the loup-garoux, or werewolf. Scarlet Hood’s Haunted Woods will begin in a cabin in the woods, where guests will view a replica of the crime scene from Scarlet’s childhood. Then, guests will be spirited away to 17th century France, where they will ride a horse-drawn carriage through the woods of Nahant (Gévaudan). Guests will follow the Beast’s path through the woods, where they will see horrific mutilations and decapitations.
I don’t want to spoil the ending, but let’s just say it’s to die for.
